Transparency of contracts and spend information

Government has set out the need for greater transparency across its operations to enable the public to hold public bodies and politicians to account.

In April 2010, as part of the transparency agenda the Government made certain commitments with regard to procurement and contracting for central government and related bodies such as NDPBs and ALB’s. The Transparency within government document explains these commitments in more detail.

Suppliers and those organisations looking to bid for public sector business should be aware that when a contract award is made it will be published in the public domain.  In some circumstances, limited redactions will be made to some contracts before they are published in order to comply with existing law and for the protection of national security and personal privacy.
